This level:
  • Is open to candidates who can prove they have passed Level 2.
  • Is the minimum entrance requirement to progress to Level 4 Diploma.

SUBJECTS COVERED:

Part 1 :
  • Viticulture and winemaking.
  • Key factors determining the quality, style and price of a wine.
  • Producing countries of the world (regions, varietals, appellations and legal classifications).
  • Sparkling wines: production and important producing countries and region.
  • Fortified wines: production and important producing countries and region.
Part 2 :

COURSE TIMETABLE:

EXAMINATION :

  • Will be at least a fortnight after the course. Several dates will be available.
  • Duration 2 hours 30 minutes, plus administration time.
  • Consists of a theory paper and a practical paper. The theory paper consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and 4 written answer open questions.
    The practical paper is a blind tasting of two wines.
  • The pass mark is 55% on each part, theory and practical
